Project Description

Upgrade and renovation of Suva’s Sikh community’s National Heritage-listed Temple in Samabula.  Earlier alterations had detracted from the historical appearance of the classical Greek façade and Orton Architects was commissioned to design new alterations that were in keeping with Sikh architectural heritage.

A new dome located over the centre of the temple provides natural light over the Guru Granth Sahib.  New cupolas terminate the verandas and flank the classical façade.  Historical architectural detailing was resurrected by raising the new veranda roofs which allowed the original arched windows to be reinstated along the side elevations.  The entire project was completed within a limited financial budget.
